Ingredients

  • ½ (21-ounce) can pie filling (about 10 ounces or 1¼ cups)
  • 1 cup dry cake mix Or about 7.5 oz (about half of a standard 15.25-ounce box)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted or thinly sliced
  • Optional topping: chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish. Or for a deeper cake use a loaf pan.
  3. Spread the pie filling evenly in the bottom of the dish.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pie filling—do not stir.
  5. Top with butter, spacing evenly over the cake mix.
  6. Bake for 28–32 minutes, until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

  • For best results, weigh the cake mix if possible—1 cup is approximate.
