Ingredients

  • 1 medium apple, peeled if desired, cored and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (or Splenda or preferred sweetener)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Tiny pinch nutmeg
  • Tiny pinch salt
  • Several small pats butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Core and thinly slice the apple; place slices in a small baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Toss apple slices with the cinnamon mixture until evenly coated.
  5. Dot the top with small pats of butter.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20–30 minutes, until the apples are tender and bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving so the sauce thickens slightly.

Tips & Substitutions

  • Adjust cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  • I chopped mine so it would cook faster.
  • A little butter goes a long way—use sparingly.
  • Pears can be substituted for the apple.
  • For fewer carbs, use Splenda or another sugar substitute in place of sugar.
  • Delicious served warm on its own or with a spoonful of yogurt or whipped topping.
