Ingredients
- ½ pound ground beef
- 1 small to medium onion, chopped
- 1–2 tablespoons butter or oil
- ⅓ cup uncooked white rice
- 1 (10-ounce) can beef broth or 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt (use less if using beef broth)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
Instructions
- In a deep skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease and set the meat aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter or oil and sauté the chopped onion until softened.
- Stir in the beef broth (or water) and salt; bring to a boil.
- Add the rice, cooked ground beef, and onions to the skillet.
- Return to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20–25 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
- Stir in the pepper, seasoned salt, and Cajun seasoning.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.
Variations
- Substitute ground sausage or ground turkey for the ground beef
- Add finely chopped bell pepper with the onion
- Use brown rice, increasing liquid and cooking time as needed
