Homemade Chili Seasoning Mix (DIY)

A simple pantry blend to replace store-bought chili packets—perfect for cooking for two or scaling up.

Yield

About ½ cup seasoning (roughly 8–9 uses)

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 4 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a small bowl.
  2. Whisk or stir until evenly combined.
  3. Transfer to an airtight container or jar and seal tightly.

How to Use

  • Chili: Use 2 tablespoons of this mix to replace one store-bought chili seasoning packet.
  • Other uses: Try it in taco meat, soups, roasted veggies, or on baked potatoes.

Tips & Variations

  • Milder: Reduce the chili powder slightly.
  • Spicier: Increase chili powder or add 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
  • Smoky: Add ½–1 teaspoon smoked paprika.
  • No added salt: Omit salt and season your dish to taste.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
  • Freezing: Not recommended; shelf storage works best.
