Total Time: About 35 minute

🧾 Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked, shredded or cubed chicken
  • ½ cup diced ham
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream or sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • ⅓ cup crushed Ritz crackers or seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons butter, melted (for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Butter or nonstick spray, for greasing the dish

🧑‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish (about 6×6 inches).
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and cream. Cook, whisking constantly, until thickened, 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add ¼ cup shredded cheese and all the Parmesan; stir until melted and smooth.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine chicken and ham. Pour the sauce over the mixture and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining ¼ cup cheese.
  7. Mix crushed crackers with melted butter and sprinkle evenly over the top.
  8. Bake uncovered for 22–25 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.
  9. Let rest for a few minutes, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Cheese swap: Swiss gives classic cordon bleu flavor, but mozzarella or provolone work well too.
  • Shortcut: Rotisserie chicken makes this recipe extra quick.
  • No ham? Cooked turkey or leftover pork are good substitutes.
  • Spinach option: Add 1–1½ cups chopped fresh spinach for extra color and nutrition without changing the flavor.

🧊 Storage

Store leftovers (if any!) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
